The Lodge presents Austyn Weiner “Wilhardt and Naud”. An opening reception will be held on January 28th, 2017 from 6-9pm. The show will run through March 4th, 2017.
“I took a plane from New York City to Los Angeles, and landed on the corner of Wilhardt and Naud. I have found myself inspired by the movement and form I see in the landscape of Los Angeles, and have begun shooting film again. Shooting is an integral part of my painting process; using it as a means of understanding color and composition, and still rendering a photograph, but one that has the ability to escape the confines of reality. These drawings and paintings are a collection of experiences, ideas, thoughts, and self portraits, birthed on the corner of Wilhardt and Naud.”
Austyn Weiner (b.1989) is a Los Angeles-based artist born and raised in Miami, Florida. Austyn studied photography and painting at the University of Michigan – School of Art and Design (Ann Arbor, MI), Tel Aviv University (Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel), and Parsons School of Photography (New York, NY). Having recently moved her studio from New York to Los Angeles, and embracing both a physical and mental sense of space, the form, line, and color in her paintings have visually opened up, as she explores the expansive ideas of self, sexuality, mass, and movement.
