Shulamit Nazarian presents “Escape Attempts”

February 18, 2017

April 1, 2017

616 N La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA

Event Description

Shulamit Nazarian is pleased to announce the opening of its new Hollywood gallery located on North La Brea Avenue, just south of Melrose Avenue. The 4,000 square foot building, with original bow-truss ceiling and natural light, will allow for ambitious exhibitions and large-scale artist projects. The inaugural opening will be February 18th, 2017 from 6-9pm.

Inaugurating its Hollywood location, Shulamit Nazarian presents Escape Attempts, a group exhibition curated by Dr. Kathy Battista. Featuring seven international artists working in dialogue with the legacy of minimal art, Escape Attempts includes works by Carmen Argote, Susan Hefuna, Cindy Hinant, Alex McQuilkin, Sarah Meyohas, Virginia Overton, and Naama Tsabar. Each artist both acknowledges and subverts the practice of their predominately male forebears, creating new mash-ups that mix formal rigor with sensuality, subjectivity, and personal narrative.
