Comprised of a selection of black and white and sepia-toned photographs from Marilyn Sanders’ Botanicals series represents a culmination of decades of aesthetic and conceptual exploration. Each flower takes on a subjecthood, character, and personality uniquely its own, caught in a moment of simultaneous growth and decay.

In Marilyn’s words, each flower moves “beyond the visual to something intensely spiritual – a crossover of the endless life cycle that connects humanity and the natural world. A pollinating plant relates to the birth, life and death of each of us.”

“From the earliest rolls of film I developed to the most recent images I printed, photography has been a constant rediscovery of life, of people and things made remarkable by the glow of natural light. A human face or an urban landscape, a still life of objects either precious or mundane – all evoke memory and emotion. I photograph them to share how I perceive the world, an impulse so deep that it feels as if the exposures emerge from within, as if I were a human camera obscura.”
