Event Description

Brainworks Gallery presents “State of the Union,” a group show curated by Erin Adams, Kristine Schomaker and Diane Williams. The show will run from February 4 though February 25, 2017.An opening reception will be held on February 4, 5-8pm. The dawn’s early light on November 9, 2016 found much of California aghast at what their democracy had wrought. In the weeks leading up to the presidential inauguration, artists have come forward to express fear and outrage, but also hope for a better future. Joining the lineup of galleries presenting works of resistance is Erin Adam’s new artist-run space, Brainworks Gallery, with “State of the Union”, opening February 4 through February 25.

According to recent polls, greater than 80% of Americans say the country is more deeply divided on major issues this year than in the past several years. Polarization between urban and rural communities, liberals and conservatives, and the widening gap between the wealthy and the poor has created deep and painful wounds in the national spirit.

Artists have always been able to be the voice for the unheard. Art gives us a place to begin conversations of healing and renewal. State of the Union seeks to discover who we are as a nation, where we are hurt and how we can heal the divisions among us.

Participating Artists:
Ajuan Mance, Dwora Fried, Edi Dai, Emily Wiseman, Erin Adams, Jane Szabo, Kim Abeles, Kio Griffith, Linda Sue Price, Marjan Vayghan, Narsiso Martinez, Richard Wilks, Rick Dallago, Robbie Conal, Scott Froschauer, Terri Lloyd, Vincent Tomczyk, Yasmine Diaz

About Brainworks Gallery
Brainworks Gallery is LA’s newest artist-run gallery on Mid City’s vibrant West Pico Boulevard. In this diverse neighborhood, Brainworks Gallery will be a showcase for emerging artists, conversation, and a truly independent perspective on the artistic voice in today’s world. Erin Adams invites a more lively dialogue between artists and the city about what it means to have a voice and how we use it. Shows will feature both emerging and established artists whose work has a strong point of view. As an artist-run gallery, Brainworks Gallery intends to function as a place to meet new voices that are curated but unconstrained by market forces
